About four years ago, Matilda Dominique began researching the secrets and possibilities of the waffle weave technique. She tried out different samples in her loom, varying yarn qualities, thread densities, colours and experimenting with the finishing. The desire to, within certain parameters, explore the technique resulted in 30 woven samples and some larger works. It is these samples and the process behind them that are presented in these booklets. Through photographs and personal texts by Dominique, one can follow her into the studio, into the sketching process, the dyeing process and the loom. Contributing writers include art writer and critic Johanna Theander; archivist Linda Wiktorén and Fiberspace’s director Marcia Harvey Isaksson. Photographer: Elin Sylwan.
