Linnea Blomgren

In her exhibition “SUBGITTER: The underlying structure of reality”, Linnea Blomgren presents a group of woven images. She describes her process as follows:

In my practice, the carpet is the starting point for making.
A process that slowly leads me on.
The examination gives me direction and speed, it keeps me moving when I examine the language of the fabric.
Simplicity, repetition, geometry, play and seriousness.

The carpet tells us about place, time and people. About our need for community, spatiality, aesthetics and materiality. “Subgitter” are the underlying structures that create conditions for the common language of the fabric in time and space, layer upon layer.

Linnea Blomgren is a textile artist and teacher at Handarbetets Vänner. She has a Masters in Textile from Konstfack and previously worked at Märta Måås Fjetterström’s studio in Båstad.

OCCUPATION?
– Weaver, Textile artist

WHAT DOES FIBER MEAN TO YOU?
– The material I work with is the starting point for my work. The handling of the material arouses my curiosity and desire to explore. What can it become? In my hands?

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE TEXTILE FIBER OR TECHNIQUE?
-Fat wool and knotted carpets (pile)

WHAT IS YOUR MOST VIVID TEXTILE MEMORY?
– When I accidentally cut twelve warp threads on a carpet I was making for a customer at Märta Måås-Fjetterström. We were short of time and I thought I ruined all the work… But a colleague came to my rescue and helped me fix the wrap threads one by one. I am still grateful for that rescue! And I am not afraid of cutting off the warp threads anymore.
