OCCUPATION?
Gallery director, interior architect, exhibition designer and weaver.
WHAT DOES FIBER MEAN TO YOU?
From the strength of a silk or carbon thread to the insulating properties of wool or fiberglass, fiber represents solutions to everyday problems but it also represents comfort and beauty.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE FIBER OR TEXTILE TECHNIQUE?
Tough choice, but I would have to say hand-weaving. The mathematical base suits my logical mind and the vast number of qualities, colours and patterns that can be achieved appeal to my creative mind. Witnessing a fabric grow thread by thread is a meditative and very satisfying process.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST VIVID TEXTILE?
When I was a little girl, my mom knitted me a doll named Jemima, who had a little knitted dress, small knitted shoes and brown woollen hair that my mom had knotted in strand by strand. One day I decided to give Jemima a haircut, which didn’t work out so well. I was horribly disappointed when Jemima’s hair didn’t grow back so she ended up in a cupboard and I never saw her again. I hope to knit myself a new Jemima one day, if I can get a hold of the pattern.
