Welcome to this special workshop organised by Miro Burman in collaboration with TNA Design Studio from London. The Geometrist is a system to make models of polyhedra and introducing further structural adventures in paper. Using a simple method of folded paper strips and glued corners, it provides outline polyhedral structures, which allows one to enjoy these three-dimensional forms more clearly than in surface models.

During the workshop, we will learn the basics of the system for geometric shapes, then make our own paper objects with instructions from Tomoko Azumi, founder of The Geometrist, via Zoom. (The workshop is held in English.)

The Ninevites is a design studio and collaborative platform founded by Nkuli Mlangeni-Berg. Their beautiful woven textiles for the home tell a story of black culture and unheard voices; of age-old traditions in a modern context; of heritage and handicraft. These textiles are definitely on our covet-list!

Fiberspace's director, Marcia Harvey Isaksson is collaborating with KHVC and Svenska Institutet in an idea-generating project bringing together an amazing group of artists who have weaving as a common thread. The artists are Mariana Silva Varela (SE), Kristina Müntzing (SE), Cöme Touvay (FR), Mark Corfield (UK), Emelie Röndahl (SE) and Julia Bland (US).

Experience Swedish contemporary crafts during Stockholm Craft Week 1-4 October 2020. For four days, Stockholm and neighbouring Värmdö will be filled with events, seminars and exhibitions. Private and public galleries - including Fiberspace, museums and studios will open their doors to highlight the exceptional and multifaceted art field.

Hannah-Molly Brown and Veronika Muráriková have together created CRAFTSIGHT, an open space where they share their ideas from the position of makers with other artists, writers, devotees, or educators from the field. Tune in to Spotify or Podbean for the episodes.

Two looms are guesting the gallery at the moment, a Swedish Glimåkra and a newly build West African style loom. They are engaged in a kind of dialogue, sharing the same warp, discussing the universality of plain weave. Dialogue/Dialog is an installation by Fiberspace's curator, Marcia Harvey Isaksson. It will hopefully be making it's way to other spaces. More news to follow!

Weavers in the West is a cultural heritage project by Marcia Harvey Isaksson, developed and presented within Slöjd Stockholm’s residency programme “Plats för det handgjorda” (Space for the hand-made) and within the scope of the on-going dialogue exhibition “Ongoing Africa” at the Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm. Slöjd Stockholms residency programme is made possible by funding from the Swedish Arts Council, the Commission for Handicrafts and Stockholm County Council. The project took place between August and November 2018.

"Events on the Surface - Shibori, A knowledge-forming motion" is the title of Thomas Laurien's doctoral thesis from the Academy of Design and Craft at the University of Gothenburg. His aim is to answer the questions "What is shibori?" and "What does shibori do?", alternating roles as artist, observer and curator to highlight different aspects of the art form.

Carl Cyrén's masters degree project from Konstfack Carbon Craft is an experimental design project where he has relocated carbon fibre from the world of super cars and sports equipment to the world of crafts. His focus has been on combining glassblowing and knitting, collaborating with the glass artist Reino Björk, Smart Textiles in Borås and The Glass Factory in Emmaboda. Fiberspace looks forward to his continued research and development of this exciting meeting of materials.

With her background of textile and architecture, Akane Moriyama works to create unique quality in space at the intersection of the two fields. Her work is often understated but full of poetic thought, and ranges from private commissions to art installations. Cubic Prism is her largest piece to date at 25m in length and was exhibited at the Goldsmith Hall at the University of Texas.
