The second in a series of textile art symposia organised by Svenska Vävakademin will occur on the 6th of November 2019 at New Karolinska hospital in Solna. The focus of the symposiums is to discuss the current and future situation, terms and conditions for textile art in the public realm. This time with particular focus on textile art in health care facilities.

Welcome to this book launch and mini-exhibition by Päivi Ernkvist 30/10-2/11! The Venetian adventurer and author Giacomo Casanova's talent and versatility were enormous. A little known fact is that he, among other things, started a silk weaving business in Lyon, which under the direction of others then grew to 400 small and large silk weavers. But by then, Casanova's troubled spirit had already found other countries and focus of his creativity.

An inspiring afternoon was spent on the 4th of April in the service of textile art. Hosted by Svenska Vävakademin in collaboration with Konstfack Textile, a pop-up exhibition was created at Konstfack featuring Ulla Parkdal, Josefin Gäfvert, Petter Hellsing, Miriam Parkman, Linnea Blomgren and many, many more. Talks were given by Helena Hernmarck, Ingeborg Skaar, Lennart Nilsson to name just a few, covering many interesting topics like how to succeed for over 50 years as an international textile artist focused on monumental works, to how to ...

Two looms are guesting the gallery at the moment, a Swedish Glimåkra and a newly build West African style loom. They are engaged in a kind of dialogue, sharing the same warp, discussing the universality of plain weave. Dialogue/Dialog is an installation by Fiberspace's curator, Marcia Harvey Isaksson. It will hopefully be making it's way to other spaces. More news to follow!

Welcome to an artist talk about Kristina Skantze's solo exhibition, Non-Mythological Creatures. We will delve into Kristina's very special world and the figures she creates. Weavers in the West is a cultural heritage project by Marcia Harvey Isaksson, developed and presented within Slöjd Stockholm’s residency programme “Plats för det handgjorda” (Space for the hand-made) and within the scope of the on-going dialogue exhibition “Ongoing Africa” at the Museum of Ethnography in Stockholm. Slöjd Stockholms residency programme is made possible by funding from the Swedish Arts Council, the Commission for Handicrafts and Stockholm County Council. The project took place between August and November 2018.

Fiberspace is proud to be collaborating with a neighbourhood pre-school, The Cottage this January, inviting them to take part in a natural dyeing workshop held by Petra Holmberg/Slow Creations. The results of the workshop will be saved for the Easy Piece Collaboratory, an exhibition and festival at Fiberspace later on in the year.
